Beerhouses History:
From 1848 to 1968, Wellington Road Train Station in Dewsbury was a thriving giant on the Trans-Pennine route. The next 25 years saw it decline and most of it closed as it was de-manned. That all changed in 1994 when, taking inspiration from Stalybridge Buffet Bar, the old waiting rooms were renovated and converted into a bar – The West Riding Licensed Refreshment Rooms. The WEST RIDING was born and little over twelve months later “What’s Brewing”, CAMRA’s newspaper described it as ‘LEGENDARY’.

With an emphasis on cask ale and promoting local and independent brewers the pub went from strength to strength, winning Yorkshire Pub of the Year in 2006. In 2007 it was National Pub of the Year Runner Up and has since been a winner of many local CAMRA awards.

Not content with the success of the West Riding, the Sportsman in Huddersfield was purchased and turned into one Yorkshires premier cask ale venues. A run down boozer was transformed leading to it winning the CAMRA/English Heritage Pub Design Award in 2010. As at the West Riding a raft of CAMRA awards have also followed.

Further pubs were added, The Cricketers Arms, Horbury, in 2010 and then Stalybridge Buffet Bar in 2012. Again the same formula was applied to these pubs and the brand was born. This led to in 2014 becoming the limited company we are today. The pub portfolio was further enhanced by the acquisition and refurbishment of The Old Turk in Dewsbury as both a venue pub and the Head Office of Beerhouses. This was followed by the acquisition of Idle Beerhouse, the first of the beerhouse brand in 2017 with a focus on spirits, craft beer & great food and events.
